Watch List

Here are some players who I think are worth picking up in your roto or keeper leagues:

JS Giguere: Started four straight before last night’s game against LA. Carlyle has been going with a win and you’re in approach, and the Ducks lost last night with Hiller.

Jimmy Howard: He was already going to get around 30 games because the Wings never overplay Chris Osgood, but when looking at the stats I think Howard might split the season in Detroit. Osgood: 6-5-4, 2.75 GAA and .897% . Howard: 7-4-1, 2.56 GAA and .907% . He hasn’t had a bad game in a while and has shown the confidence he lacked early on.

David Backes: I am so happy I waited 22 games for him to get his FIFTH POINT of the season. He has six points in his last four. If he can continue to get points at a decent pace, he is worth a pick up if you have PIM in your league, he had 165 last year.

Stephen Weiss/Michael Frolik: Weiss had 13 points in 14 November games and makes for a good option as one of your centres if you need assists. I am worried what will happen to Frolik once Booth comes back from being knocked senseless by Mike Richards; but there is still no timetable as to when that will be. After not scoring in his first 14 games as a rookie, he finished with 21. He started slow this year as well and already has seven goals. If you are in a keeper, I would get him immediately.

Eric Staal: Major buy low candidate. He has four points in four games since returning from a month long injury. He only has three  goals, but there is no way that will last long.

Antoine Vermette: He has been very consistent all season long, whether it is centering Rick Nash or Jakub Voracek. He is well on his way to the breakout season the Senators just couldn’t wait long enough for.

Todd Bertuzzi: I know, this one seems pretty unlikely, but watching as many Wings’ games as I do, you would see how many chances he is getting with Pavel Datsyuk. And to repeat half of that, he is playing with Pavel Datsyuk.

Paul Kariya: Slow start, yes. Very slow start, yes. Turning it around, finally! I predicted a big season from Kariya this year after an injury filled 2008-09 campaign. After an absolutely horrible start, he has slowly been rounding into form with points in three straight games. He is back on the powerplay, and has taken 23 shots over the past four games.

Eric Fehr: Every year he does this, goes on little streaks where it seems like he will be a 50 goal scorer. The Caps now have both Alex’s out of the lineup (although Semin might return tomorrow), so this leaves a hole in their top winger spots. He has goals in three straight games. He had a huge junior career, and it just seems like he is always on the cusp of breaking out; the only question is whether he will do it before Tomas Fleischmann.
