Filatov Struggling

Remember this guy. I was all about him a few months back when I started my blog. I was furious with Filatov’s treatment while under Hitchcock, and even had a little counter on the side of this side tallying his KHL points. In the past year, he has went from arguably the number one prospect in the League to one big, gigantic question mark.

He only played 12 of the Jackets first 19 games, and only tallied two goals over that time. Then he left for the KHL because he felt it would better help his development.

At the 2010 WJC Tournament, he only had one goal and six points in six games. This was after an eight goal, 11 point performance in 2009.

At the same tournament, he was stripped of his captaincy because of lack of leadership.

He was then left off Russia’s 2010 Olympic team, a team that was highly criticized for having too much KHL influence.

He did well for CSKA Moscow after the transfer, with 22 points in 26 games, but they failed to get out of the first round.

Now, with his KHL season over, he has been cut by Russia’s World Championship club. I’ll bet he was hoping the two Alex’s took some time off to rest up for next year.

It’s been a pretty rough fall from grace for Nikita Filatov. He has said that his plan is to come back to the Blue Jackets for training camp next season, but he is really going to have to impress to get his career back on track. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him traded during the offseason, depending on who the Jackets draft this summer.
