By the Numbers

Check out this article at NHL.com that takes a look at some numbers to remember from this past hockey season.

The most surprising one has to be

“#8 — Consecutive shootout goals by Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll, including the deciding goal in L.A.’s playoff-clinching 3-2 win against Phoenix on Thursday. In all, Stoll is 9-for-10 in shootouts; his shooting percentage (90.0) would be the highest of any player with five or more shots since the shootout was introduced in 2005.”

A close second is how the hell can two players take 14 shots in a game and fail to score.

Games of the Decade

That’s right. With the new year coming in a few weeks, I have already started putting together a list for top 10 games of the decade. I think I am just going to go with NHL games, and then maybe even a top 5 Red Wings’ games. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to contact me or post.

Alexander Ovechkin left tonight’s game with a knee injury when collided knee on knee with Tim Gleason. What is reaalllllly interesting with this is that Ovie was given a five minute major penalty AND a game misconduct. When Georges Laraque was suspended for five games after his knee on Niklas Kronwall, he was only given a two minute tripping call. Could we actually see Alexander Ovechkin get suspended? This certainly is not the first time he has kneed someone, and although he did not stick out his leg the way Laraque did, the NHL has always taken into account A) what the penalty on the play was and B) how long the player was injured. Tim Gleason left the game as well.

Delayed Thoughts….

Well the multiple posts that I had planned on doing during the past few days have kind of passed their time. I have had the flu, which you would think would allow me to post all I wanted. I just did not feel like moving or thinking. So why don’t I just write whatever I have thought about during the past few days: Continue reading
