Im going to start my predictions for the 2010-11 season with how I think the Eastern Conference will unfold. The East has been in a post-lockout slump, with the skill level and goaltending barely even comparing to the West, but that doesn’t mean things won’t be competitive for those final few spots once again: Continue reading

Hart Needed From Miller, Ovie, Sedin

With both Boston and LA coming off huge Game 2 victories on the road, and the Habs having outplayed the league leading Caps for most of their series, all three buildings should be absolutely rocking with anticipation of their team taking a 2-1 series lead.

While the Hart Trophy nominees won’t be announced until next week, my three candidates for the award need to pick up their game tonight if they want their teams to regain home ice advantage. Continue reading

Jose Three-or-more

Well, not quite…..but just like in last year’s opening round series against the Rangers, Jose Theodore has been relieved early by Semyon Varlamov.  Under a minute after the change the Caps made it 2-1. I guess ‘Jagr’ was right.

Pens vs Caps Round 3

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on March 24, 2010 by davepoleck

Should be another great game tonight between these two rivals. The only unfortunate thing is that Evgeni Malkin doesn’t look like he will be in the lineup. Either way, you are in for a good one; that is if you get the US version of the NHL Network or FSN Pittsburgh. Good job NHL. Im sure even Habs and Sabres fans would rather watch Sidney vs AO over their two teams, who will be facing off on TSN tonight. That game will probably be 3-1, take a look at the Pens/Caps games since the 2007-08 season:

  • 2-1 Pittsburgh
  • 4-3 Pittsburgh
  • 6-5 Washington
  • 4-2 Pittsburgh

  • 4-3 Washington
  • 6-3 Washington
  • 5-2 Washington
  • 4-3 Pittsburgh

  • 6-3 Washington
  • 5-4 Washington

Caps vs Pens Round 1

Another great, high scoring game between the Caps and Penguins. I love how this rivalry has been created. It started with the obvious comparison between Ovechkin and Crosby. Coming in to the League, you knew these two would be compared to each other for their entire career. It was made even better right out of the gate when they battled their entire rookie season for the Calder Trophy. The past few seasons, and likely from now on, will be a battle for the scoring race and Hart Trophy. Last year, their rivalry climaxed in a thrilling seven game series, with a not so thrilling seventh game. The rivalry has been added to by fellow Russians Evgeni Malkin and Alex Semin, who have each taken a fair amount of shots at the opposing teams’ superstar. Now, both players are captains, both are on young powerhouse teams, and both seem to be in good, if not great shape for the future. And now we have the Olympics coming around the corner. WOW. One of these days, they will meet in the Conference Finals and it is going to be absolutely breathtaking.
