Pacific Division Breakout Candidates

A little bit later than expected but here I go starting off with the Pacific Division. Many of these players will range on how exactly I see them breaking out in 2010-11; some started their upswing last season, others are rookies, others are just chosen because a team’s future looks so unpromising that they were the only choice. Enjoy: Continue reading

Another Stupid Hit

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 18, 2010 by davepoleck

Here is the feed on James Wisniewski’s hit on Blackhawk defenseman Brent Seabrook. And wow….I hate Perry…and I hate the Ducks. But what a fucking cheap shot by Wisniewski! Seabrook didn’t even touch the puck!!! I can’t wait to hear how Wisniewski won’t be suspended by a clear retaliatory hit where he charged across the ice.

I can’t really tell if Seabrook is actually hurt. His reaction to the hit is pretty Oscar worthy, but that could just be because he is knocked senseless. He looks fine on the bench after though.

In the big picture, this instance goes to show one of the of the things I truly hate about the NHL since the lockout: throwing a big check automatically results in a some sort of retaliation or aggressive attack. It is actually turning into a joke that every big body check is followed by this bullshit. It isn’t even star players any more. If any player on the ice is decked, someone to take out their dick measurer and try to make a name for themselves. Stupid.

New Leafs

Brian Burke has definitely had enough. It has been a long, long time since a Leafs actually made me excited for the future. Sure, they are giving up a lot of players, but Phaneuf is still very young and has a lot of potential, as does 6′ 6″ Keith Aulie. So in total:

  • Dion Phaneuf
  • Keith Aulie
  • Fredrik Sjostrom
  • JS Giguere

  • Matt Stajan
  • Niklas Hagman
  • Jamal Mayers
  • Ian White
  • Vesa Toskala

Jason Blake has now been added to the Giguere deal. Wow…..they just moved six players in one day. When was the last time that happened? The only player I will miss is White; he is a RFA at the end of the season. Hagman was good, but one of the only bargaining chips the team has, so he had to go. Stajan was just on the Leafs at the wrong time. On any other team (like Calgary), he would be a valuable second line centre. On the Leafs, he was pushed into the number one centre role and expected to perform at that pace. Not going to happen with him. Thank god Jason Blake is gone. What a waste of cap room!
