What A Shift!

This is what Mike Richards bring every shift. What a great shift and goal that was last night. Make sure you watch the whole video so you see the hit he threw on Marc-Andre Bergeron just seconds before scoring the tying goal last night.

Sharks Series Winner

Wasn’t there a memo sent out to all teams regarding this exact type of hit late in the season?

The rule prohibits “lateral, back-pressure or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact.” The league will have the power to review such hits and apply further discipline.

Obviously this memo didn’t reach the refs in Game 5 between Detroit and San Jose. The Sharks broke down the ice after the non-call on Doug Murray, got a faceoff in the Wings’ end, and scored the series clinching goal seven seconds after the draw. That stings.

I hate that it had to go down like that because I don’t want to have to have an excuse for every loss that the Wings have. I do believe that San Jose was the better team over the whole series, but definitely not by the margin that a 4-1 series win would indicate.

In Game 1 Franzen was called for tripping on Devin Setoguchi, when on the same play Seto’s stick came up and hit Mule in the face. Should have been a four minute penalty to San Jose; instead the Sharks scored their game winner on that powerplay.

Game 2 saw some of the worst penalty calls that I have ever seen, and saw Detroit with a total of ten before the game was over. The game winner was a result of Lidstrom’s stick breaking as the puck came back to him at the point; this lead to a 2 on 1 for the Sharks.

Game 3 was the big one in the series, and the one in which the Wings needed Howard the most.

More to come on the Wings’ season and future later today.

Last In, First Out

Ahh good old LIFO from stupid accounting. I hated that concept. Almost as much as I hated how the Philadelphia Flyers performed all season long.

I have made it clear many times that they were my pick to win the Stanley Cup at the beginning of the year. What wasn’t to like? Arguably the best top 8 forwards in the League, which had a mix of vets and rookies, scoring and sandpaper; they added Ray Emery who seemed to have a new lease on life, and brought in veterans leaders Ian Laperriere and Chris Pronger. That was the goal call of the guy on whichever channel AM 640 was relaying the game from tonight. Got to listen to a bit of the 3rd OT and all I heard was “Carkner shoots…Sens SCORRRREEEE!!! COWABUNGAAA!!”

I love goal calls.
