Magnus Paajarvi(-Svensson)

Magnus Paajarvi (it seems he has dropped the Svensson from his jersey) put on a pretty good show for the TSN audience last night, netting a hat trick and adding one assists on Cogliano’s powerplay goal. The clip is of the first goal he scored and show how skilled and dynamic he can be. Remember, unlike Hall and Eberle, Paajarvi has been playing against men in the SEL for the past three season, since the age of 16.

Coming into camp, he was considered third on the depth chart in terms of who would make the team behind those two other rookies. Even before this little burst of energy last night I would have kept all three around. The Oilers don’t have much going for them this year so why not let all three show their stuff with the big club. Even if he is sent down after camp, it’s only a matter of time before Ales Hemsky goes out with an injury.

Mock Draft Results

Posted in Hockey Blogs with tags , , , , , , , , on June 28, 2010 by davepoleck

So in the end I did just ok in the Mock Draft from late last week. Out of the 30 first round picks, I only got five:

1. Taylor Hall (Edm)
2. Tyler Seguin (Bos)
3. Erik Gudbranson (Fla)
9. Mikael Granlund (Min)
26. Evgeny Kuznetsov (Wash)

Of the 30 picks, another five of mine weren’t even picked in the first round:

31. Tyler Pitlick (I had 23rd)
33. John McFarland (I had 29th)
36. Alexander Petrovic (30th)
38. Jon Merrill (25th)
49. Calvin Pickard (28th…ouch)

There is a contest on DobberHockey to guess where the free agents land starting Canada Day, so I will post those picks too.

TSN had a cute article yesterday on the success that Jordan Eberle (“CANADIAN HERO” says Pierre) and Magnus Paarjarvi-Svensson are having at the World Championships this year. Eberle has four points in the three games he has played while MPS is leading Team Sweden with eight points in six games. Both are property of the Edmonton Oilers and should find their way onto the main club next year. Continue reading
